A New Front Door Decoration

I had fun quilting this little quilt yesterday.  I know, I should have added at least 1 leaf but what can I say, I just didn’t.  I like it just the way it is and it looks cute hanging on my front door.

Design Wall Monday–April 28, 2014

I’ve really been bitten by the Dresden bug.  Can you tell?

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I went to a guild workshop and made 1 – 4 part Dresden Plate.  I loved how it looked but it was very time consuming and not as straight forward as I’d like.  Even though I was a little frustrated, I continued making an additional 8 or so blocks.  I was not at all happy with how they were coming out and not happy about the amount of time I was spending on each one.  Soooooooo (for those of you that know me this will not come as a surprise) a changed how I’m making them and I am now doing my own thing.  Don’t get me wrong the teacher we had was a wonderful and delightful teacher but her way just wasn’t working for me.

I left the original 4 blocks (upper left) and got out my seam ripper and started over with the others.  The prep still takes a fair amount of time but making the blocks takes no time at all and I love them and I’m much more successful putting them together.

BTW, the red and yellow blocks on the right are not necessarily arranged the way they will end up.  As I make more blocks I also have been playing with the layout.  At this point I’m not even sure how big I’m going to make the quilt but at least I’m having fun.

Design Wall Monday–April 21, 2014

It doesn’t look like there is much going on here but I’ve been busier than it looks.

I made one more split blade Dresden block, sewed it together and added the center circle. And then I made month 9 of my Amish with a Twist II.  I’ll make month 10 today.

What you don’t see is the two round robin’s I’m participating in.  The first one was for my friend Sue who is part of my Wednesday Wacko friendship group.  We are doing a round robin that started with a 12” block and will eventually get 11 rounds added to it.  I was the third round on Sue’s so it’s now ready to hand over to Terri for the 4th round.  The second round robin is one my guild is facilitating.  For that one the block was a rectangle and I added the first round of five.   Both of these are to be kept secret until the unveiling.  I’ve taken before and after pictures and will eventually share them here.

Design Wall Monday–April 14, 2014

I attended a fun guild workshop on Saturday.  We made Split Blade Dresdens out of Jelly Rolls with Amelia Beldon.  I only got 4 blocks made but I definitely see more in my future.

Design Wall Monday–April 7, 2014

This was on the design wall last week while I was at at retreat.  It is now in the process of getting quilted.  In an on-going effort to clear out some of my UFO’s, the borders were added last week.  This is made from my pattern Wacky Devine Nine.
